It is the main component of the system regarding the fact that this is where all your different parts will be connected.
In the previous step you have already prepared the case, install the processor and the heatsink/fan into the socket.
Now you will learn the proper way to install a motherboard before adding the other components
Inventory all your devices to make sure you miss anything. Check that you have IDE cables for hard disk drive and CD-ROM, and I/O plate possibly, ATA or SATA cables depending on the type of your hard drive.
One more time you should make usage of the user manual for the motherboard to examine any possible incompatibility between your parts and the board configuration. If any replacement is necessary, do it before installing a motherboard.
1 - Install and secure your mainboard
At this step you need to align the holes from the motherboard with the holes found in the case. Look if the mounting holes of the motherboard are lining up with the holes in the case.
Now you can install the standoffs if you already find the holes. Made of plastic or brass pegs, the standoffs will maintain the motherboard once you install it. Fix the motherboard to the case with the screws beginning from the center then screw the corners.
2 – Prepare Wires and Connectors for the components
To install your other components you should prepare the appropriate wires and connectors. It’s better to use the motherboard manual to guide you to attach these wires for connecting the power of LED, reset switch, speaker leads, hard drive etc.
The other important cable you’ll have to plug come from the power supply. Presently you don’t have to do it. Preferably ensure that each wire is secured and then continue the installation guide.
Finally
The foundation of your computer building project is ready. Continue to follow the installation guide to complete your system. The next steps are relatively easy regarding the process of installing a motherboard.
