Let’s start the process.

  • 1 - Look where the processor socket is located
Your motherboard should be placed on a clean and sturdy surface. Place it on its carrying box instead of using towel, dirt surface or bedsheet. The socket has numerous pin holes which allow you ton insert the processor in only one orientation.

There is a lever to the side of the socket you’ll have to pull away gently to install a CPU into its socket.

  • 2 - Install a CPU
Now examine your processor and look at the pins at the bottom, try to align them with the pattern on the socket. You see that there is only one way to install the CPU.

Now you can install a CPU processor into the socket. Press it down delicately until the CPU slides into the socket. At this step you can lock the CPU into the socket with the lever at the side. If the CPU comes with a cooling solution, thermal paste or a thermal pad, an attached documentation will explain you how to place it above the processor.
  • 3 – Install the Heatsink/Fan
According to your heatsink type, the mounting technique can vary. Some heatsinks will require you to clamp down on them with the lever and attach them to the metal hooks on the mainboard. For other heatsinks you’ll have to screw the entire unit into the board.

Anyway, ensure to install the heatsink properly using the documentation. Pay attention that at this stage not to place unnecessary pressure on the motherboard. If you have to use screwdriver to install your heatsink, be careful to cause any damage to the motherboard. If your heatsink comes with a fan, attach it carefully.
  • 4 – Configure the BIOS
Finally you have to connect the heatsink fan header to configure the BIOS. On the motherboard you’ll find the fan header where you’ll plug the cable power of the heatsink fan. You may easily locate the three-pin CPU fan power connection header as they are clearly usually marked.

Once all the other components properly installed, start the BIOS configuration steps to. This will show you the speed and the type of your computer processor. One more time you need to check the attached documentation as the procedure can be different according to the manufacturer.

Conclusion

Following properly these instructions you are a lot comfortable to do the job. If you are first time builder it will seem naturally like an overwhelming task. But as far as you understand the whole process it will become familiar to you.

As shown above you need more brainpower than mechanical skill to conclude the procedures. Fortunately it is the most delicate action you have to perform in the installation process. Be sure, you’ll be able without doubt to install any other components once you really know how to install a CPU and Heatsink.
